"....would you be willing to allow me to end my membership but still use up my massages that have been banked. They just keep adding up every month...."
Call a few weeks ahead for appointments especially the weekend times.
While this is good advice to a customer who has several unused benefits It would have been helpful for me to have been informed at that time, that I had up to 60 days after cancellation to use up the massages. Full disclosure is ethical and professional practice.
Great therapists who listen to what you need and cusomize your massage to your needs. Lovely front desk girls who will explain everything to you and take their time doing so giving you undivided attention.
I wrote:
Hour massage is 50 min hands on. They do an intake when you arrive, then walk you to the front and answer any questions after massage.
It was virtually impossible to get appointments to fit in with my rigorous schedule.
Arrive early for first massage to fill out medical paperwork. Massage does tons of good stuff for the body and effects so much they have to know anything medical so you are taken care of correctly.
In an email to the franchise manager, I tried to cancel my membership and I was never informed in the response to my email, that it was possible to still use up my accrued benefits up to 60 days after my membership was cancelled.
I won't upload a copy here, but I actually still have the email dated June 10th 2015 (2 years ago) that I sent to the franchise manager specifically requesting cancellation because of my challenges with work scheduling. I asked if I could be allowed to use up my accrued massages after cancellation.
Don't go here. DO NOT GO HERE. If you value your relaxation time, your babysitting money, or your sanity (IT WAS A PAIN TO SCHEDULE ON THE PHONE—MY WIFE WAS LITERALLY SHAKING AFTER TALKING TO ONE OF THE LADIES ON THE PHONE BECAUSE IT WAS SO UN-RELAXING) DO NOT GO HERE!
Then, it came time for her 90 minute massage she scheduled for a few days later. Well, the "therapist" talked the entire time. And because of the "hassle" of the previous appointment (the facial that was cancelled) they decided to "upgrade her" to a foot scrub in addition to her massage. Thing is, they cut the massage short by 30 minutes in order to give her the 30 minute foot scrub. SO, she scheduled and paid for a 90 minute massage and only received a 60 minute massage before they switched her to their "upgraded" foot scrub of 30 minutes. Lame.
Had my first-ever massage here today. I obviously don't have a baseline to compare to but the front desk workers were both nice and the massage therapist talked just the right amount.
My concerns with massage envy were purely contractual and policy based. The therapists are amazing, the place is clean. If you can work around the scheduling and non-disclosure in the moment when you ask a question, then...
Awesome service. Friendly faces. Committed therapist. Nice and clean environment. Always professional!
I am not sure who is writing the high star reviews. Maybe the owner? My advice (based on my wife's experience) is stay far, far away from this place.
Few things to know:
Overall, for a first massage experience I thought it was a good place to go to.
Over time I had finally used up my banked massages until I had only 90mins worth of massages left. I was travelling again at the last minute when I had already booked an appointment. So, I called to transfer my final massage to a friend. I was told that I would have to pay the $10 transfer fee AND I could only transfer 60 mins. I would need to pay for the extra 30 mins for my friend. So I said ok, well let's just transfer one hour then. I was told that even if it was 24 hrs prior to the date of my massage, I COULD not transfer only 60mins because I had booked a 90 min slot. Humph!!!! SMH!!!
Reading through the previous reviews, my wife commented on how others said the staff was "professional." Not one of the ladies she met was professional. Not an ounce of professionalism. Stay far away.
2) STAY INFORMED! READ YOUR CONTRACT! Don't depend on the establishment to offer you full disclosure when you call with a question or ask via an email. Make sure to read the fine print for yourself. I had to learn the hard way. Here's an example.
"Unfortunately, I cannot deviate from the franchise policy regarding your contract for the reasons you noted. I would encourage you to schedule dual services, hot stone services, or longer services so you can utilize your banked massages. You can also transfer up to 1 massage session per month to a different person (same person only 1x every 6 months) for a $10 transfer fee. You can even do this for friends/family who live in other states."
1) If you travel alot for work, this is NOT for you.
Be careful of the up-sells though. If you're thinking about the yearly membership, sleep on it. You don't have to make up your mind there.
The story: The kids and I thought it would be nice to get her a massage something or another for Mother's Day. When we walked into Massage Envy there was this big sign with something about a Mother's Day Special. It seemed simple, so I asked the lady at the front desk to purchase one of the specials. Turns out, it was just a $125 gift card and an "upgrade." Okay, so I could get over that. But then came time for my wife to use it.
Be honest with your therapist, they are trained to change any thing you need to make you comfortable.
and her response was
First, she scheduled a facial. When she arrived, she was ushered to a front room to fill out paper work. She was then walked to a back room where she was soon informed that the lady who was suppose to do her facial didn't show up to work. The worker gave her a curt "sorry" and then ushered her out the door.
I love this place!
While the therapists that I've had over the years at this franchise are AMAZING (Keenan,Juan, Ryan, Deanne, Mickie, and Ken), my general experience with this particular branch of Massage envy has been horrendous to say the least. If you don't have the time to read my review in its entirety here's a summary...two things to note: 1) If you travel alot or have rigorous work schedule this contract is not for you and 2) STAY INFORMED! READ THE FINE PRINT!!!
