Great selection and pretty good prices if you're shopping, but they hardly ever give you a good price when they're buying from you. And they're way too picky about what they're willing to buy, etc...
The staff is rude. Walked in and no polite greeting - just "You here to buy or sell"? They rummage through the clothes I brought in which were neatly folded and out of a dozen items of casual clothes from (not what I would consider dress clothes by far) they accept one of the worst shirts for $3. They returned my clothes to me just stuffed in the bag not folded at all. The clothes I took in all were brand names except for this shirt I bought at Walmart, which was the one they accepted and was in the worst condition. They said the clothes were too dressy. It's no wonder I can not ever find anything in there worth buying. They don't even accept Tommy Hilfiger or other brand names anymore it seems. Definitely will not be returning. The customer service is horrible and they come up with a lame excuse not to accept your clothes. The clothes I took in had only been worn once or twice including the jeans. Apparently jeans are too dressy. Save yourself a headache and don't bother with this place.
They had a great clearance sale going on (50% off) when I was there. So that was great. But some of the other clothes were a bit on the pricier side for being used. $20 for most hollister and American eagle jeans....I can buy them brand new for $25. I also bought 2 pairs of jeans while there, and when I got home noticed that the zipper was broken on one pair (teeth missing and wouldn't zip up) and the other pair had stitching coming lose on the right thigh so there Is a hole forming...so really disappointed about that. I will definitely pay more attention next time. I don't blame the store though; I didn't notice anything wrong with them until I tried them on at home. So very easily missed by just looking. But other than that, the store is pretty large with a lot of selection.
Don't know why everyone is complaining, they are in business to make money, if you don't like it, don't sell your clothes there! (perhaps you should explore why you are selling clothes in the first place, rather than just giving them away) clothes are decent enough I got a hilfiger puffy down coat for $25 good, warm, not too ugly coat
First of all, I have found myself in a business opportunity where I've been traveling quite a bit for a year now. From Maine to LA and everywhere in between. I enjoy the thought of adding pieces to my wardrobe from different places. I don't always know what is trending in that area. It's become my passionate hobby to locate a Plato's Closet on every trip (several trips per month). If I go to an area mall, I'll have to shop from store to store, pay full price and maybe never find what I'm looking for. When I find a Plato's Closet, I know that I will find many brand name items, always at a discount, in great condition, and I'll find that unique piece. They only take what's hot in their area. Depending on what part of the US you're in, the Plato's varies. For example, some are environmentally conscious and wrap your items in twine instead of bags. I fill my loyalty card pretty fast. But, none of the many I've been to are as fun and professional as the Plato's Closet closest to my home. This Plato's Closet in Mishawaka, Indiana was the first one I'd ever been to (even though I have been to the very first Plato's ever opened when I went to Ohio). The staff does not always take the items I try to sell, but I'm rarely in there to sell. I always know that if I need a certain item to complete an outfit, I need to come here first. Usually they have what I'm looking for and at a great price. I also enjoy talking with the staff, especially Nicole, about the interesting differences in any recent Plato's I've been to. Like in Scottsdale, AZ where they give you extra stamps on your card for refusing a bag. Or how the stamp cards in Fort Wayne, IN are not paper, but a hard rubber on a key chain. Or near Orland Park, Illinois where they have no loyalty cards at all (bummer). I always check-in on Foursquare when I find a Plato's though. It's just a fun hobby, and a break from the business trip, that I love. Oh, and they have so much more than just clothes! They carry shoes, boots, purses, scarves, jewelry, hats, books, never opened lotions and perfumes, watches, backpacks, belts, wallets, nail polishes, phone cases, leg warmers...etc. They carry men's items. Their jeans actually go up to, I think, a size 16. So, you don't have to be tiny to shop here. School shopping here is a MUST! Especially for winter coats and prom dresses.
